The Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of being a “serial betrayer” and a significant threat to the party’s stability. Mohammed urged Wike to resign from the PDP and align fully with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a press release on Saturday, Mohammed’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, criticized Wike for allegedly engaging in divisive actions and betraying the PDP’s core values.
Responding on Sunday, Wike, through his Special Assistant on Media, Lere Olayinka, dismissed Mohammed’s accusations, attributing the PDP’s challenges to what he described as Mohammed’s “failure of leadership.” This marks the second verbal clash between the two political figures in less than two weeks.
Gidado, reiterating Mohammed’s earlier characterization of Wike as a “transactional politician,” accused the FCT minister of abandoning his principles to become a tool for the APC, a party he once described as “afflicted with Stage 4 cancer.” Mohammed further alleged that Wike is deliberately working to destabilize the PDP while attempting to create divisions within the party.
Despite Wike’s actions, Gidado claimed, the PDP remains strong and united, save for a few defectors and dissidents led by Wike. He described the minister as a “favored foot soldier” of the APC, determined to weaken the opposition for the ruling party’s benefit.
Gidado also asserted that Governor Mohammed’s leadership and integrity surpass Wike’s, framing Mohammed as a steadfast defender of the PDP’s values.
As tensions escalate, the feud between Mohammed and Wike underscores ongoing internal struggles within the PDP, even as the party strives to maintain unity ahead of future political contests.
