The Nigerian Army has labeled 44 soldiers, deployed to combat Boko Haram and ISWAP in Borno State, as deserters and subject to severe penalties upon capture, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
These soldiers, assigned to the 403 Amphibious Brigade in Baga, Borno State from various units, have had their bank accounts frozen by the Army.
The 403 AMPH BDE falls within the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) Sector 3 in Nigeria.
Despite being ordered to report to their unit by October 31, 2024, the soldiers in question have failed to appear, now a month overdue without any communication.
A military communication issued on November 1, authored by Major HO Akoh as the representative of the 403 Amphibious Brigade Commander, addressed this issue.
“Furthermore, Reference C as well raised a reminder on the initial request of their release to report not less than 31 Oct 24 and they are still absent. In view of the aforementioned, I am directed to respectfully request you declare them on AWOL WEF 1 NOV 24.
“I am to further add you please cause HQ NAFC to freeze their salary account accordingly while you intimate NAIC and NACMP to apprehend them if seen and bring them under military escort for disciplinary action. Please find at Annex A List of soldiers posted in to 403 Amphibious Brigade (Rear).”
