Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been arraigned in a Magistrate Court in Abeokuta for allegedly assaulting government officials, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
Portable turned himself in at the Lagos Command’s Criminal Investigations Department on Wednesday after being declared wanted by the Ogun Command and was subsequently transferred to the Ogun Command’s headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
He was arraigned on a five-count charge, including conspiracy, assault, and conduct likely to cause harm, before an Isabo Magistrate Court, where he pleaded not guilty. His nine aides were also arraigned on similar charges before Magistrate O L Oke.
The nine suspects, who range in age from 19 to 28, are: Nurudeen Warris, 21, Adetola Alashe, 25, Samuel Adeleke, 28, Oluwaseun Ayenuwa, 19, Oluwapelumi Adeosun, 20, Gospel Kanu, 20, Precious Ohiegebo, 19, Ifeoluwa Babatunde, 27, and Fatimo Muhammed, 26.
The defendants were charged with a five-count indictment for felony, assault, and restriction, and were accused of being armed with cutlasses and guns, engaging in conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and intending to kill.
Three town planners, Abidemi Onabanjo, Ramon Lateef, and Akinpelumi Oyero, were allegedly assaulted, restricted, and obstructed by the defendants and Portable, a popular hip-hop musician, while they were performing their lawful duties at Odogwu Bar owned by Portable.
The defendants entered a not guilty plea, and their counsel, Oluwatoyin Ayodele, requested bail, assuring the court that the suspect had become remorseful and learned from the experience.
Magistrate O L Oke granted the singer bail in the sum of ₦2m with one surety, and adjourned the case until March 5 for trial.
The singer was declared wanted by the Ogun State Police authorities for allegedly attacking three state government officials on duty at his bar in the Sango area.
