Akure Community Rejoices as Tunji-Ojo Facilitates Power Restoration After Months of Darkness

Residents of the Fadeyi, Hospital Road, and Oluwatuyi areas in Ward 9 of Akure South Local Government Area, Ondo State, are celebrating the restoration of electricity to their communities after enduring several months of total blackout caused by a faulty transformer, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.

The affected communities had been plunged into darkness since February 2026 following the breakdown of their transformer, a development that disrupted economic activities, affected businesses, and subjected residents to significant hardship.

According to community members, several appeals were made to political leaders and relevant authorities for intervention, but the efforts yielded little or no result. However, their fortunes changed when they reached out to Ondo Community Connect, a community intervention initiative coordinated by Mrs. Iretidola Akinrowo Ojekhoa and sponsored by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

In what residents described as a swift and timely response, the initiative presented a financial cheque to fully fund the repair of the damaged transformer, paving the way for the restoration of electricity to the affected neighbourhoods.

Speaking on behalf of the community, residents expressed profound appreciation to the Minister for coming to their aid at a critical time. They noted that the prolonged blackout had negatively impacted small businesses, students, artisans, and households, making the intervention a major relief for the people.

Many residents described the restoration of power as a new lease of life for the community, emphasizing that electricity remains a vital component of economic growth and social development.

The beneficiaries also commended Mrs. Ojekhoa and the Ondo Community Connect team for responding promptly to their concerns and ensuring that the challenge was resolved without unnecessary delay.

Community leaders further stated that the intervention reflects Hon. Tunji-Ojo’s commitment to grassroots development and improving the welfare of residents across Ondo State. They noted that beyond his responsibilities as Minister of Interior, the federal lawmaker-turned-minister has continued to support various community-based projects and initiatives aimed at addressing the needs of the people.

“Our streets and communities are genuinely happy with Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. This intervention has brought relief to hundreds of residents who have lived without electricity for months. We are grateful for his responsiveness and dedication to the people,” a resident said.

Residents also pointed out that the Minister has facilitated several developmental projects across different communities in Ondo State, earning him widespread recognition for his commitment to service and community development.

With electricity now restored, residents say they are optimistic that normal economic and social activities will fully resume in the affected areas, ending months of hardship and uncertainty caused by the power outage.
