AAUA ASUU Joins Indefinite Strike Over Non-Implementation of 2025 Agreement

The Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has commenced an indefinite strike over the non-implementation of the 2025 agreement reached between the Federal Government and the university lecturers’ union, SavannahNewnow learnt.

The industrial action is coming amid growing concerns over the failure of the Aiyedatiwa led government to implement the new salary structure approved for university workers, despite previous commitments to address the issue.

The AAUA chapter of ASUU reportedly took the decision to withdraw its services following the continued non-implementation of key aspects of the agreement, particularly the approved salary structure for academic staff.

The development is expected to affect academic activities at the institution, including lectures, examinations and other academic engagements, as the union maintains its demand for the implementation of the agreement.

The latest action by AAUA ASUU also comes shortly after the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, declared an indefinite strike over the same issue.

The development means that two major state-owned universities in Ondo State have now joined the growing agitation by university lecturers over the implementation of the new salary structure and other outstanding agreements with the government.

The unions have continued to insist that agreements reached with the government must be honoured, arguing that the failure to implement the approved salary structure has placed university lecturers at a disadvantage and further worsened the challenges confronting the university system.

The indefinite strike is likely to put additional pressure on the government to urgently address the outstanding issues and avert further disruption of academic activities across the affected institutions.
