Savannah News, a reputable media house in Nigeria has concluded a story on a 37-year-old lady, AKINKUGBE MOJISOLA
Mojisola, a civil servant in Nigeria, Ondo State precisely and a widely known medical laboratory personnel in the state have been sexually attracted to her fellow female since secondary school.
On January 7, 2014, Nigeria’s former president, Goodluck Jonathan, signed the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Bill (SSMPA) into law.
The notional purpose of the law is to prohibit marriage between persons of the same sex. In reality, its scope is much wider. The law forbids any cohabitation between same-sex sexual partners and bans any “public show of same-sex amorous relationship.
The law imposes a 10-year prison sentence on anyone who “registers, operates or participates in gay clubs, societies and organization” or “supports” the activities of such organizations.
Punishments are severe, ranging from 10 to 14 years in prison. Such provisions build on existing legislation in Nigeria, but go much further: while the colonial-era criminal and penal codes outlawed sexual acts between members of the same sex, the law effectively criminalizes lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
AKINKUGBE MOJISOLA’s lesbian practice was not known to any member of his family until he got a job with the Ondo State government in Nigeria.
Savannah News investigative journalist reported that MOJISOLA has been secretly having sexual feelings with his fellow gender in the past but this was kept away from family members or anyone for fear of being stoned to death.
MOJISOLA was caught in a hotel with her partner in the act and was molested by the hotel management. She was caught by the hotel staff who brought the food they ordered to their room. This is where Mojisola started experiencing hell on earth.
Savannah Newsnow reports that MOJISOLA AKINKUGBE had been separated from her husband before the ugly incident occurred, and the cause of their separation has not been established because Savannah Newsnow investigative reporter couldn’t reach the husband for a brief on their marital issues as his wife MOJISOLA declined to discuss such issue with our reporter.
Omolara Emmanuel reported what he observed to the hotel manager, Mr Sola Olowokunlepe who happened to know Mojisola’s family husband. The manager called a few people to challenge them, but unfortunately, they were equally cut in the act by the men the manager recruited to challenge them.
The manager proceeded to take steps required by Law. Firstly, he reported the incident to Mojisola’s family husband and thereafter to the Police Station.
Mojisola AKINKUGBE was handed over to Nigerian police for proper investigation and punishment as required. Hotel management couldn’t prove their allegations against Mojisola though because her partner identified as AGNES IDOGUN was nowhere to be found. There’s wasn’t concrete evidence to back their claim, but police knew Mojisola actually in the business.
Savannah News in the course of Investigating stories such as this confirmed authoritatively that arbitrary arrest and extortion by police are commonplace under the country’s law.
Due to the corruption issue in Africa particularly in Nigeria, Mojisola was asked to pay a huge amount of money to enable them to free her. Mojisola raised the money and paid Nigeria police. She was allowed to go home.
Mojisola AKINKUGBE’s husband’s family have been threatening her for damaging the family name because of the abomination act she committed which was widely reported across the county. The husband’s family at a point was brutally dealt with her by throwing away her belongings from their son’s house.
Our Investigation clearly showed that Mojisola’s husband Mr. ADEBOLA AKINKUGBE abandoned his wife and children because of marital issues and relocated to South Africa amidst family trouble.
Mr Adebola Akinkugbe family continue hurling insults at Mojisola at every point. It was also gathered that Adebola Akinkugbe’s family had made attempts on several occasions to take the children away from Mojisola. They went to the children’s school on several occasions to forcefully take away the kids, the attempt was resisted by the school authority because of the school rules that say no child will be released to anyone except their parents. Due to the constant humiliation of the kids, Mojisola AKINKUGBE (Mother) had to change the kids’ learning centre to avoid the husband family forcefully taking away those kids.
Savannah Newsnow also gathered that Mojisola had to leave her husband’s apartment to save herself from further embarrassment and for fear of being harmed for involving in an unpardonable offence under the Nigerian constitution.
Savannah News reports that MOJISOLA AKINKUGBE and ADEBOLA AKINKUGBE later resolved their differences after their Church intervention in Nigeria. Mojisola confessed to having truly engaged in such an abominable act because of boredom.
