The Joint Action Congress of Ondo State Tertiary Institutions (JAC-ODSTI) has rejected an agreement reportedly reached between some unions and the Ondo State Government on the implementation of the Federal Government agreement, insisting that the ongoing strike will continue.
JAC-ODSTI said it would resist any attempt by the state government to employ what it described as a divide-and-rule strategy among workers in the state-owned tertiary institutions.
In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Tayo Ogungbeni, and Secretary, Kunle Akinwonmi, on Tuesday, the congress maintained that the strike would not be suspended until all outstanding demands of its members were satisfactorily addressed.
The congress further stated that the agreement reached with some unions did not represent the collective position of JAC-ODSTI and could not resolve the issues that prompted the industrial action.
JAC-ODSTI comprises the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) across Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA); Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa; and University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo.
The development means the industrial action affecting the state-owned tertiary institutions is set to continue, as the unions maintain pressure on the government to address their outstanding demands.
