The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has received a warm welcome from members of the Nigerian community in Canada ahead of his official engagements in the country.
The welcome was led by popular Canadian-based Nigerian activist, Jimi Adekanle (JAF), alongside other Nigerians resident in Canada, who turned out to receive the minister.
Tunji-Ojo is in Canada as part of a high-level Nigerian delegation attending official engagements between the governments of Nigeria and Canada.
The visit follows President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive for his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to lead a delegation comprising five state governors and selected ministers to Canada for bilateral discussions between both countries.
The delegation is expected to engage Canadian authorities on areas of mutual interest and strengthen existing relations between Nigeria and Canada.
The warm reception accorded the Interior Minister by Nigerians in Canada underscores the growing interest of the Nigerian community abroad in developments at home and the activities of the Federal Government.
The official engagements are expected to further deepen diplomatic, economic and institutional cooperation between Nigeria and Canada.
