Former Labour Party presidential candidate and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential hopeful for the 2027 general election, Peter Obi, has appealed to the terrorists responsible for the abduction of dozens of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State to release the victims without delay, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
Obi made the appeal while expressing deep concern over the worsening security situation in parts of the country, describing the kidnapping of innocent schoolchildren and educators as a tragic development that should trouble every Nigerian.
According to reports, the victims were abducted during a violent attack in Oriire Local Government Area, throwing families, communities, and education stakeholders into anxiety and uncertainty.
The former Anambra State governor urged the abductors to show compassion and humanity by releasing the hostages unharmed, stressing that children and teachers should never become targets of violence or criminal activities.
He also called on security agencies and relevant authorities to intensify efforts to secure the safe return of the victims and bring those responsible for the attack to justice. Obi further emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to tackling insecurity across the country, noting that the protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government.
The incident has once again renewed concerns about the persistent threat of kidnapping and insecurity in several parts of Nigeria, with citizens increasingly calling for decisive measures to safeguard schools and communities.
