The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress stand no chance of making significant electoral gains in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike boasted that Atiku and the ADC would struggle to secure even 10 percent of the votes in the oil-rich state, describing their political prospects in Rivers as weak and uncompetitive.
The former Rivers State governor expressed confidence in the strength of his political structure and support base in the state, maintaining that any opposition coalition seeking to challenge his influence would face a difficult task.
According to him, Rivers remains firmly under the control of forces aligned with him, making it unrealistic for Atiku or the ADC to record any meaningful electoral success in the 2027 polls.
Wike’s remarks come amid ongoing political realignments and coalition talks among opposition figures ahead of the next general election, with Atiku and several political stakeholders exploring alliances aimed at challenging the ruling establishment.
The comments are expected to further intensify political debates as parties begin early preparations for the 2027 elections.
