The Nigerian movie industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran Nollywood actor and lecturer, Patrick Okoye, popularly known as “Pat Okoye” or “Energy.”
According to reports that emerged on Wednesday, the respected actor reportedly passed away in the early hours of May 28, 2026.
The sad news was announced through his official social media platform, where tributes have continued to pour in from fans, students, colleagues and members of the entertainment industry.
Before his death, Patrick Okoye was widely known for his contributions to Nollywood as an actor, filmmaker and entertainer. He was also an academic at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, where he served in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies.
Over the years, the veteran actor featured in several Nollywood productions and earned admiration for his energetic acting style and dedication to the entertainment industry.
Many of his students and colleagues have taken to social media to express shock and grief over his passing.
Although details surrounding the cause of his death remain unclear as of the time of filing this report, condolences have continued to pour in from across the country, with many describing his death as a huge loss to Nollywood and academia.
Patrick Okoye is survived by his wife, children and extended family.
