The prolonged political tension in Rivers State may be heading towards a resolution following a late-night meeting between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and key political actors from the state in Abuja, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
According to a report by The Nation on Monday, President Tinubu hosted the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara; and other influential Rivers stakeholders at the Presidential Villa.
The meeting is believed to be part of ongoing efforts by the President to broker peace and restore political stability in the oil-rich state.
Although details of the discussions were not officially disclosed, developments after the meeting have fueled speculation of a possible reconciliation.
The report claimed that Governor Fubara accompanied Wike to his residence in Guzape, Abuja, after leaving the Presidential Villa.
Sources cited by The Nation further alleged that Governor Fubara appealed to Wike during the engagement, pledging to avoid actions perceived as disrespectful to the former governor, a move seen as a significant step toward mending their strained political relationship.
The political rift between Wike and Fubara has deeply divided Rivers State’s political landscape in recent months, affecting governance and party cohesion. Monday’s meeting, however, signals renewed efforts at the highest level to de-escalate tensions and foster unity among the state’s leadership.
