The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made during a plenary session on Friday, where Amaewhule along with 15 other members of the House declared their switch.
They cited a deepening internal crisis within the PDP as their reason for abandoning the party, saying the growing divisions had hindered effective representation.
The defection, which shifts the balance of the Assembly, could significantly alter the political dynamics in the state.
