President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a new directive ordering the immediate withdrawal of police officers assigned as escorts to VIPs across the country.
According to the Presidency, the move is part of a wider security restructuring aimed at returning more police personnel to core policing duties in communities nationwide.
Under the new order, VIPs who still require protection will now be expected to make formal requests through the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) instead of relying on police escorts.
The President also approved plans to boost manpower within the Nigeria Police Force, including the recruitment of 30,000 additional officers and the upgrading of police training facilities in partnership with state governments.
The Federal Government says these reforms are designed to strengthen community security and ensure that more officers are available to respond to nationwide security challenges.
