Ex-Bayelsa Lawmaker Warns Jonathan Against 2027 Presidential Bid

A former member of the House of Representatives from Bayelsa State, Hon. Israel Sunny-Goli, has cautioned former President Goodluck Jonathan against contesting in the 2027 presidential election, describing such a move as a “serious mistake.”

Sunny-Goli gave the warning on Thursday night while speaking as a guest on Politics Today, a Channels Television political affairs programme.

The ex-lawmaker, who represented Brass/Nembe Federal Constituency in the 9th National Assembly, said Jonathan had already made history as both a former vice president and president and should not allow political interests to drag him back into the race.

According to him, the former president’s global reputation as a statesman and peace advocate could be jeopardized if he returns to the murky waters of partisan politics.

“Dr. Jonathan has earned respect both in Nigeria and across the world. It would be a mistake for him to contest again in 2027,” Sunny-Goli said.

There have been growing speculations about Jonathan’s possible return to the presidential race ahead of the 2027 general elections, although the former president has yet to make any official statement on the matter.
