Former Labour Party Presidential Candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has distanced himself from images circulating on social media, describing them as “fake and doctored.”
In a statement on Tuesday, Obi dismissed the photographs, one of which purportedly showed him meeting former U.S. President Donald Trump, with claims that Trump had praised him.
Another image falsely depicted him in the office of Lagos State Parks Management Committee Chairman, MC Oluomo.
Obi categorically denied both claims, stressing that he had neither met Trump recently nor ever held any engagement with MC Oluomo.
“These fabrications highlight the persistent dangers of fake news and disinformation in our society. They are not only misleading but deliberately designed to confuse, misguide, and distract the public,” Obi said.
He urged Nigerians and the international community to remain vigilant, fact-check information before sharing, and resist the spread of propaganda aimed at undermining truth and integrity.
The former Anambra State governor noted that if such meetings had indeed taken place, he would have made them public through his verified X handle. According to him, his politics “has never been about seeking praise or cheap publicity.”
Reiterating his commitment to national development, Obi said his focus remains on addressing Nigeria’s most pressing challenges, including insecurity, weak rule of law, poor education and healthcare systems, and pervasive poverty.
“A new Nigeria is POssible,” he affirmed.
