Court Orders Final Forfeiture of $7m Abandoned in Lagos Bank

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the final forfeiture of $7 million in cash abandoned in a commercial bank on Victoria Island, Lagos.

Justice Emeka Nwite gave the ruling after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) confirmed that no individual or organization came forward to claim the funds despite a widely published interim forfeiture order.

The EFCC revealed that the money was suspiciously deposited in March 2025 without being linked to any legitimate account or transaction.

Investigations indicated the funds were likely proceeds of unlawful activity, and the court directed that the recovered cash be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.
