Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, is poised to launch a series of new infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing road networks and urban lighting in the nation’s capital.
Starting this Thursday, September 18, 2025, Wike will initiate the construction of 12 new roads and the installation of solar-powered streetlights in key districts of Abuja and major expressways as part of the Light Up Abuja Programme.
Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, announced on Monday that the minister will commission access roads in Sector Centre B, near Dakibiyu District, as well as Esther Bali Street and Kez Udezue Street in Mabushi District.
Olayinka stated that while two projects will be commissioned this week, at least 14 new projects will be launched between September 18 and October 16, 2025.
These include the procurement of integrated hybrid solar lighting in various areas such as Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, Central Business District, Airport Expressway, Katampe, Garki I & II, Mabushi, Gudu, Jabi, and Katampe Extension.
Other projects to be undertaken include:
Full scope development of Arterial Road N1 from Wuye District to Ring Road II.
Construction of the Northern Parkway from Ring Road II to Ring Road III.
Access road to the bus terminal at Mabushi District.
Phase II of Arterial N20 (Solomon Lar Way) linking Obafemi Awolowo Way to Airport Expressway.
Access road to the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates site in Karsana West.
Road bypassing the Airport Second Runway with a four-span bridge.
Mohammed Isa Road extension in Asokoro District.
Rehabilitation of the 15km old Keffi Road from Kado Village to Dei-Dei Junction.
Engineering infrastructure in Guzape District (AIT Neighborhood).
Construction of Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel I. Ogala Street) in Katampe District.
Residences for the heads of courts, including the President of the Court of Appeal and Chief Judges of the Federal High Court, FCT High Court, and Industrial Court.
Olayinka recalled that just four weeks ago, Wike flagged off the expansion of water supply to satellite towns, with projects already ongoing in Bwari Township and Karu town.
“These new projects reinforce the FCT administration’s commitment to urban renewal, infrastructure expansion, and improving the living conditions of residents,” he added.
