A group of teachers recently recruited by the Ondo State Government staged a protest at the Governor’s Office in Alagbaka, Akure, on Thursday, over what they described as “fake appointment letters.” SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
The aggrieved teachers accused officials of sidelining them from the ongoing data capturing exercise being conducted by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). They claimed their exclusion was deliberate, despite having received appointment letters during the last recruitment exercise.
Chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards, the protesters called on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to urgently intervene in the matter and ensure they are included in the verification process.
One of the protesting teachers, who spoke on behalf of the group, said they were shocked when officials denied them access, alleging that their appointment letters were not genuine.
“We went through the recruitment process, got our letters, and now we are being told we don’t exist. That is unfair,” the teacher lamented.
The protesters appealed to the governor to probe the controversy and bring those responsible for the irregularities to book.
As of the time of filing this report, government officials were yet to issue a formal response to the protest.
