Fintiri to Wike: I Won’t Put Our Relationship Above the Party

Says Internal Conflicts Must Stay Within

Chairman of the PDP National Convention Committee and Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, has issued a strong response to former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and his camp amid rising tensions within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, during ongoing preparations for the party’s highly anticipated national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, Fintiri made it clear that the unity and integrity of the party take precedence over personal alliances or political loyalty.

> “I will not place our relationships above this party,” Fintiri stated, responding to what many believe are attempts by Wike and his allies to exert pressure on the party’s decision-making process. “Let us not take all our matters to the media. It is becoming too embarrassing.”

He emphasized that internal party issues should be addressed through established channels, not through media outbursts or public confrontations.

“If you are truly a party man, you settle issues within the party. We will not allow indiscipline and blackmail to derail this process,” the governor added.

Fintiri’s remarks come at a critical juncture for the PDP, which is working to project a united front ahead of the convention. There have been growing concerns about deepening rifts within the party, particularly between factions loyal to Wike and those aligned with other prominent figures.

While Governor Fintiri did not mention Wike directly by name, his message was unmistakably aimed at party members who have taken internal disagreements to the public arena—an act he considers damaging to the PDP’s image and stability.

Political analysts suggest that Fintiri’s strong stance signals the party’s readiness to enforce discipline and reassert internal cohesion, especially with the 2027 general elections on the horizon.

Sources within the party say the convention committee is determined to ensure a smooth and credible process in Ibadan, regardless of any attempts to create distractions or influence the outcome through external pressure.

Governor Fintiri concluded by reaffirming his commitment to the party and its core principles, urging all members to act responsibly and put the PDP’s long-term future above personal interests.
