The federal government has declared Friday, 5th September 2025, a public holiday to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid, which commemorates the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, announced on behalf of the Federal Government, extending warm greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and globally on this occasion.
He encouraged Muslim faithful to reflect on the Holy Prophet Muhammad’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion, stressing their importance in achieving a united, prosperous, and progressive nation.
The ministry, in a statement signed by its permanent secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, urged Nigerians of all faiths to pray for peace, security, and stability in the country, and to support the Federal Government’s efforts to promote national harmony and sustainable development.
“The celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid offers us yet another opportunity to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence, and imbibe the Prophet’s teachings of mutual respect and selfless service to humanity,” the Minister stated.
Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo also encouraged citizens to remain law-abiding, vigilant about security, and cooperative with government policies designed to promote the overall welfare of all Nigerians.
The Minister wishes all Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration.
