Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has intervened in the crisis at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) declared an indefinite service withdrawal over unpaid salaries and arrears, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
The Governor instructed the University management to immediately settle the outstanding salaries of the striking lecturers.
The strike, declared following ASUU-AAUA’s Congress on August 21, 2025, has brought all academic activities at the institution to a standstill.
On Sunday, Commissioner for Information Mr. Idowu Ajanaku confirmed the Governor’s directive, emphasising that measures were being taken to provide immediate relief and ensure long-term stability.
“A committee was set up to resolve the issue. It has met and recommendations have been made. For the salary arrears, the governor has given a directive to the University for the payment of the outstanding salaries. I know that within the next few days the issues will be resolved,” Ajanaku said.
The Commissioner also revealed that the government has approved a subvention increase for universities and other tertiary institutions in Ondo State, which will be included in the 2026 budget.
While government officials forecast a quick resolution to the dispute, students remain stranded as the Academic Staff Union of Universities insists that the strike will be called off only after its members have received their payments.
