Mr. Ezekiel Imole Adeniran, the Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences in Ondo State, has been assassinated, throwing the institution and community into mourning.
Mr. Adeniran, who became the university’s third substantive Registrar on January 6, 2025, was discovered dead at his residence in Ondo town in the early hours of Thursday, July 17, 2025.
A university source confirmed that he was found dead in his home on Thursday morning and expressed hope that the police investigation would reveal the circumstances surrounding his death.
In an official statement, the university’s Head of Media and Protocol, Mr. Isaac Oluyi, described the registrar’s sudden death as shocking and deeply painful.
“The devastating news has left the entire university community in mourning,” the statement read. “He was present at work on Monday, July 14. The circumstances of his death remain unclear at this point.”
Mr. Oluyi paid tribute to Adeniran’s dedication and integrity, saying, “He served with dedication and integrity until his untimely death. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace.”
Mr. M.A. Akinkuade, Head of Human Resources at UNIMED, also expressed heartfelt condolences, describing the late registrar as a loyal and diligent official whose impact on the university’s development will be remembered.
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the murder of the registrar, with spokesperson SP Olayinka Ayanlade stating that the case was reported at the Fanibi Division and is under investigation.
“From initial findings, two men reportedly emerged from a nearby bush and forced an unknown substance into another individual’s mouth.
We are investigating the full circumstances surrounding the attack,” Ayanlade said.
While the exact location of the assault is still under investigation, the police have vowed to pursue every lead and bring the perpetrators to justice. Ayanlade is calling on the public to come forward with any information that could aid the police in their investigation.
