Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has appointed Yomi Odunuga, a veteran journalist, as his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, effective immediately.
Until his appointment, Odunuga was a Deputy Editor with The Nation Newspaper.
Yomi Odunuga began his journalism career at The Punch newspapers as a proofreader and later served as Abuja Bureau Chief and Deputy Editor of THE NATION newspapers.
Mr Odunuga, a poet, lyricist, reporter, and columnist born on June 2, 1966, began his journalism career with the PUNCH newspaper over 27 years ago, serving as State House Correspondent for several years and maintaining two columns, Life in Abuja and Inside Aso Rock.
His astute analysis of the complex politics of the time earned him widespread recognition and accolades, ultimately leading to his promotion as Abuja Bureau Chief of The PUNCH newspaper. In 2006, he was further elevated to Group Political Editor of The PUNCH.
He later joined THE NATION newspaper as Assistant Editor and Abuja Bureau Chief. At THE NATION, his PUNCH newspaper column, Knuckles, was rebranded as Knucklehead, allowing him to continue his weekly analysis and critique of socio-political developments. In 2019, he was appointed Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, to Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Deputy President of the 9th Senate.
After serving a four-year term at the National Assembly from 1999 to 2003, he rejoined The NATION newspapers as a Deputy Editor, where he conducted special interviews and wrote insightful, analytical articles.
