President Franklin Delano Roosevelt pioneered the celebration of the first 100 days in office in the United States on June 11, 1933, after taking office on March 4, 1933. What began as a seemingly insignificant event evolved into an indispensable ritual in governance, particularly after Historian Arthur Schlesinger brought attention to it in his work, The Coming of the New Deal.
The ritual has evolved into a widespread tradition in the United States, with countries like Nigeria also embracing it, where both military and civilian governments have recognized its value, and utilized it as an election campaign strategy..
Your Excellency, considering the unique circumstances of your inauguration, it’s possible that 100 days may not be enough to meet the people’s expectations, just as George W. Bush, Obama, and Donald Trump, among others, took up to 365 or 1000 days to assess their achievements.
Although you’ve declared a 100-day celebration with the commissioning of various projects across the State, it’s worth noting that you’ve started on a good note, which is certainly worth celebrating and acknowledging.
For instance, you addressed the political upheaval following your unexpected ascension to the throne by promoting peace, embracing an inclusive approach to governance, and demonstrating empathy towards individuals and organizations impacted by the crisis, which led to enhanced security for lives and property. Moreover, your administration’s implementation of a policing system is a laudable initiative aimed at bolstering security.
Within a mere 100 days, your administration has shown a strong dedication to the welfare of civil servants and retirees, while also laying the groundwork for a governance approach centered on the needs of the people. To fulfill this mission, your administration has made key appointments, passed crucial legislation such as the 2025 Appropriation Law and the Land Grabbing Law, and implemented various initiatives to enhance service delivery.
The government is prioritizing the improvement of infrastructure and aesthetics in Akure, the capital city, and other parts of the state, with initial focus on Idanre Road, Oda Road, major roads in Ondo, Owo, Okitipupa, Irele, and the Igbokoda-Zion Igbokoda major flyover that recently approved.
These early accomplishments, combined with the zeal and patriotism displayed by your administration in such a short time, offer a promising outlook for the future. This optimism is consistent with the positive atmosphere surrounding your inauguration and reflects the people of Ondo State’s expectation of enjoying good governance and prosperity.
I urge you to take further action and appoint a State Executive Council comprising competent and selfless individuals with relevant expertise to drive even more accomplishments.
I wish to express my solidarity with you on behalf of myself, my family, and the people of Ikale, Ondo South, and Ondo State.
As I pray to God for your protection and guidance, as well as that of your Deputy, in the mission to enhance the lives of the people through the OUR EASE policy thrust, I reaffirm my commitment to supporting the development of Ondo State.
