*RUGIPO INDUSTRIAL ACTION: ASUP SUSPENDS STRIKE WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT*

The Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics has suspended its strike, thanking Ondo State Governor Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his timely intervention.

The union initiated the strike, which began on April 4, 2025, to push for several demands related to member welfare and outstanding entitlements.

However, after a crucial congress meeting on Wednesday, May 29, 2025, the union decided to suspend the strike, acknowledging the Governor’s commitment to addressing the lingering issues.

Speaking at the congress, members of ASUP acknowledged the Governor’s recent efforts, including financial interventions that have significantly reduced the backlog of unpaid salaries from 13 months to six. The Governor, who also serves as the Visitor to the institution, was commended for his assurance to clear the remaining salary arrears.

Comrade Ade Arikawe, Chairman of the Union, expressed optimism about continued government support in his address and announced the immediate suspension of the strike action.

The suspension of the strike is expected to pave the way for the resumption of academic activities across the institution, bringing relief to students, staff, and stakeholders.
