The FCTA has sealed an Access Bank branch and a Total filling station in Wuse, Abuja, due to unpaid ground rent dues.
This action is part of the FCTA’s ongoing efforts to enforce payment from property owners in the capital who have defaulted on their statutory obligations.
Authorities have confirmed that the crackdown is part of a larger effort, which has already led to the revocation of 4,794 land titles in prominent Abuja districts such as Wuse, Maitama, Asokoro, and Garki.
A staggering 8,375 property owners in the capital city owe a total of ₦6.97 billion in ground rent arrears, with some debts dating back over four decades, prompting officials to crack down on defaulters to enforce compliance and accountability in land administration.
The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, stressed that the revocations were carried out in line with Section 28(5) of the Land Use Act, which allows the government to retrieve land from titleholders who fail to fulfill the conditions of their occupancy rights.
