Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, a member of the Rivers State Elders and Leaders Council, has responded to recent comments made by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and provided insight into Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s visit to the former governor’s residence.
Sara-Igbe responded to Wike’s comments during a media chat on Monday, stating that Governor Fubara has consistently demonstrated a genuine desire for peace.
“Of course, the governor wants peace all through. The governor is looking for peace — it is Wike who doesn’t want peace. And if somebody is looking for peace, you must make sacrifices. You can’t get any peace without sacrifice,” Sara-Igbe stated.
He said Fubara’s visit to Wike was not a sign of weakness but an act of leadership and humility.
“The governor is a governor of everybody. It’s not about pride. With humility, he went there to discuss, and they discussed,” he said.
Sara-Igbe stated that the private details of their meeting would only be disclosed if Wike chose to share them, adding that the discussion was not for public consumption unless the FCT Minister decided to make it public. Wike confirmed the visit during his media appearance.
“Yes, he (Fubara) came. He came with two governors. Unfortunately, the two governors are APC governors. I would not pursue him. And he said he wants peace. Fine,” he said.
However, Wike cautioned that peace cannot be achieved through words alone, stressing that the governor must demonstrate his commitment through action.
“What this means is that there is an open window for you. Take the necessary steps to show really (that) you want peace,” Wike stated.
Even if President Bola Tinubu lifts the state of emergency in Rivers State, peace is unlikely to be guaranteed unless concrete actions are taken.
