Mr Oseloka H. Obaze, a key ally of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, has resigned from the party, as disclosed in a letter to the LP Chairman in Ochuche Ward 406, Ogbaru Local Government in Awka on Sunday.
Obaze, a former diplomat with the United Nations, served as the Secretary to the Anambra State Government during Obi’s tenure and worked closely with him as both an adviser and a party chieftain until his resignation from the LP.
He stated that his decision was a form of protest against the conduct of the Labour Party’s governorship primary election in Anambra on April 5. He added that, effective immediately, he resigns from the Labour Party (LP) with this letter.
“The processes, conduct and outcome of the Labour Party governorship primaries held on April 5, 2025 in Awka, were fraught with outright irregularities, bothering on fraud and criminality.
“It was not in tandem with either the party’s Constitution and espoused core values or true tenets of democracy.
“As such, I hereby disassociate myself henceforth from the Labour Party,” he said.
Obaze confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the letter was authentic, adding that it spoke for itself.
He also mentioned the leadership crisis within the LP at the national level, citing the party leaders’ refusal to reconcile the factions led by Julius Abure and Sen. Nenadi Usman.
He did not reveal his next political steps. Obaze left the PDP for the Labour Party in 2022, a week before Peter Obi. He then became Peter Obi’s campaign manager and a key figure in the Obedient Movement.
