The officer greeted the motorist in a jovial tone, jokingly expressing admiration and saying he aspired to be like him, a “rich man.” The young driver laughed modestly and replied that he was just managing his situation, implying that appearances can be deceiving.
The conversation took an emotional turn when the officer opened up about his personal struggles, despite serving for over a decade.
“I have been a Nigerian Road Safety Officer for over 15 years,” the officer said. “My dream was to buy a small Golf car. I was saving up when the car cost around N1 million. Today, that same car is over N3 million, and I still can’t afford it. Things are even getting harder in Nigeria.”
The video has sparked widespread sympathy on social media, with many Nigerians expressing sympathy for the officer and lamenting the country’s harsh economic realities for workers.
