Portable, a popular Nigerian street-hop artist, has been taken into custody by the Kwara State Police Command due to serious allegations made by Saheed Osupa, a well-known Fuji musician, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
The arrest was confirmed by Police Public Relations Officer SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi in a statement on Sunday, following a formal petition by Osupa accusing Portable of criminal defamation, incitement, threats to life, and character assassination.
The police spokesperson stated that the allegations include the use of abusive and insulting language that could incite public unrest, as well as serious allegations of criminal defamation, threats to life, incitement, character assassination, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
After reviewing the petition and supporting evidence, police secured an arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court in Ilorin and apprehended the singer in Abeokuta, Ogun State, at approximately 7:25 p.m. on Saturday, April 13.
He was taken to Ilorin for further questioning, where his statement was obtained in the presence of legal representatives from both sides. The suspect is currently being held in custody, and arrangements are being made for his prompt court appearance,” SP Ejire-Adeyemi added.
According to sources close to the case, tension had been building between the two musicians for weeks before escalating into a social media feud, with Portable allegedly making threatening and defamatory comments about Osupa.
“Osupa had no choice but to involve law enforcement after repeated verbal attacks escalated into threats,” a source familiar with the matter said. “No one is above the law. This sets a precedent for accountability among artists.”
