On Wednesday, April 9, some Itsekiri natives shut down a 28,000-barrel-per-day oil production facility in Ogidigben, Warri, Delta State.
Large numbers of locals flocked to the oil production facility formerly operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).
At the facility recently acquired by Renaissance Africa Energy Holdings, protesters including women, youths and myself demonstrated against the Independent National Electoral Commission’s recommendation regarding the delineation in Warri Federal Constituency.
Unless immediate action is taken, the protesters claim that the protest will extend to other critical national assets and facilities in Itsekiri land.
The protest comes just a week after INEC proposed redrawing wards and polling units in Warri Federal Constituency in accordance with the Supreme Court’s judgment.
