A tragic incident occurred on Saturday evening along the Bwari-Dutse Road in Abuja when a VIP convoy collided with a truck that experienced brake failure, resulting in multiple casualties.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who cited intelligence sources, the chaos started around 6:50 p.m. when a Daf trailer reportedly lost its brakes and crashed into five tricycles, resulting in a horrific accident.
As emergency responders and commuters dealt with the crash aftermath, a VIP convoy arrived at the gridlocked scene, prompting security personnel to fire shots into the air in an attempt to clear the road, but a stray bullet struck Timothy John, a passerby from Dutse Baupma, in the chest.
Timothy John was taken to Kubwa General Hospital after the incident, where he was pronounced dead.
The identities of the VIP and those responsible for the shooting have not been released, sparking public outrage over the actions of the convoy’s security personnel.
Authorities have initiated a full investigation into the accident and the shooting, and Timothy John’s body has been taken for an autopsy.
