The House of Representatives Passes Emergency Rule with Overwhelming Support

The House of Representatives has given its overwhelming backing to the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.

President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers on Tuesday and suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months amid the state’s political crisis. Two days later, Tinubu requested National Assembly approval for the emergency rule declaration.

On Thursday, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbass, presented the president’s letter during a plenary session, and lawmakers subsequently approved President Tinubu’s declaration by an overwhelming voice vote.
