The Rivers State Government has finally spoken out after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency and suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly.
Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications Joseph Johnson stated that the government would reserve comment on the president’s decision, speaking shortly after the announcement.
“The president has made a declaration, and what do you think we can say? I think it is too hasty to make any comment about it,” Johnson stated.
President Tinubu, in a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday, announced the suspension of key government officials in Rivers and appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd) as the new Administrator to take charge of the state’s affairs.
A power struggle between Governor Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over control of Rivers State’s political structure has been escalating, fueling a growing political crisis.
