The Rivers State House of Assembly in Port Harcourt has indefinitely suspended its legislative sessions, following a decision reached during Friday’s plenary, which was chaired by Speaker Martin Amaewhule.
This development follows Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s notification to the Speaker of his intention to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill for deliberation and approval.
In a letter dated March 13, addressed to Amaewhule, Fubara indicated his intention to present the budget on either Wednesday, March 19, 2025, or an alternative date within the month, contingent upon the Assembly’s preference.
Fubara noted that his request is in line with a Supreme Court ruling and in response to lawmakers’ calls for him to resubmit the budget, recalling a previous attempt to present the budget at the Assembly Quarters, where he was denied entry.
