~Faculty Commissions N10 Million Solar Power Project
Rufus Giwa Polytechnic’s Rector, Mr. Olorunwa Adegun, has been honored with the ‘Icon of Education Excellence’ award by the Faculty of Business Studies for his exceptional leadership and contributions to the institution’s infrastructure development, alongside four other distinguished individuals recognized for their dedication and service.
The award ceremony, held at the Faculty of Applied Sciences Hall, honored Mr. Adegun’s significant contributions to the polytechnic’s growth and transformation during his less than 2-year tenure as administrator.
Other recipients included Mr. Benjamin Okonkwo, Dr. Fajembola, Dr. Owoputi Ayodele, and Dr. Olugbenga Jinadu, who were recognized for their exceptional leadership and commitment to academic excellence.
The Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, Mr. Olopete, welcomed guests to the event and thanked attendees, including staff and students, for their overwhelming support, while also commending the Polytechnic’s management for creating an environment that enabled the Faculty to successfully complete its N10 million Solar Power project, benefiting all 10 departments under the Faculty.
Mr. Olopete explained that the project was motivated by the excessive noise from generators across the Faculty, and he praised the Rector for his visionary leadership, hoping the award would inspire him to continue his impactful work.
“Today, we are recognizing individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to the growth of our Faculty and the institution as a whole. This award is not about flattery or ego-boosting but about encouraging the Rector and others to keep striving toward repositioning RUGIPO and restoring its former glory,” he said.
Dr. Fajembola, speaking on behalf of the award recipients, thanked the Faculty for the honor and commended the Faculty of Business Studies for its innovative initiatives, while also urging lecturers to maintain ethical standards and avoid extortion on campus.
Receiving the ‘Icon of Education Excellence’ award, Mr. Olorunwa Adegun expressed delight that his administration’s efforts to reposition the Polytechnic were being recognized both within and beyond the institution.
He expressed gratitude to the Faculty for the honor and encouraged other faculties to follow the Faculty of Business Studies’ proactive initiatives. He also congratulated fellow awardees, urging them to continue making significant contributions to society.
Mr. Adegun also commended Governor and institution’s Visitor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for his consistent support of the Polytechnic’s growth, especially for ensuring prompt payment of workers’ salaries and allowances.
The Rector also announced that the school’s CBT Centre would be completed and ready for use in the upcoming examinations.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Abiodun Ogunduboye, Acting Director of the Career Service Center, praised the Rector for his outstanding leadership, citing him as a model of competence, diligence, and vision, and noting that Mr. Adegun’s innovative ideas and interpersonal skills have had a significant impact on the institution’s administration.
Ogunduboye also urged other faculties to emulate the Faculty of Business Studies’ progressive approach, thereby reinforcing the institution’s collective mission to foster excellence in education.
