Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has stripped himself, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Governor Boni Haruna, and several others of their traditional titles following the establishment of new emirates and chiefdoms in the state, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
Atiku, originally from Jada, previously held the title of Waziri Adamawa, while Haruna, from Michika, held the title of Makaman Mubi. Fintiri, a native of Madagali, held the title of Sarki Yaki Mubi. However, all traditional titles associated with the affected emirates and chiefdoms have now been nullified.
The governor made the declaration at the coronation ceremony of the newly appointed Chief of Madagali, stating that all District Heads must pledge their loyalty, rights, and privileges to their newly established emirates and chiefdoms.
“Henceforth, traditional titles acquired from the old emirates and chiefdoms are hereby dropped. The constituted traditional councils of the new emirates and chiefdoms are therefore directed to recommend new titles for approval in line with the statutory dictates of tradition,” Fintiri announced.
Under this policy, the Lamido of Adamawa, if he wishes, must nominate Atiku and other affected individuals for reappointment, which would then require the governor’s approval.
This development signifies a notable change in Adamawa’s traditional leadership structure, impacting the long-standing affiliations of several prominent state figures.
