Magaji Amos, who represents Zango Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, has left the PDP due to unresolved disputes within the party at both national and local levels, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
Magaji, a two-time lawmaker and Chairman of the House Committee on Health Care Services, has defected from the PDP, citing unresolved crises at both national and local levels as the reason for his departure.
As the Chairman of the Kaduna caucus in the House of Representatives, Magaji expressed confidence in his new affiliation with the APC and pledged to continue serving his constituency.
Magaji holds several key positions, including Deputy Chairman of the House Special Ad-hoc Committee on the Restructuring of Government Agencies and Commissions, and membership in various House committees, such as Defense, Reformation Institutions, and Constitution Review. He is the third PDP member to defect to the APC since the 10th Assembly inauguration, prompting Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda to request the Speaker declare his seat vacant.
According to Section 68(1g) of the Constitution, Chinda emphasized that House members are lawmakers, not lawbreakers, and while the law permits members to leave the party on whose platform they were elected, it also outlines the consequences of such actions, including loss of seat, and since the lawmaker has not complied with the law, he should lose his seat.
