The Nigeria Police Force has suspended Assistant Inspector General of Police Abduyari Lafia, effective January 9, 2025.
A wireless message from the Force Secretary informed all police departments, units, and commands of Lafia’s suspension, stressing that he must comply with the rules for suspended officers until the Force Disciplinary Committee reviews his case.
According to a SaharaReporters report on Friday, a message titled ‘Suspension and Interdiction AP. NO. 41804 AIG Abduyari Shuaya’u Lafia’ revealed that the decision was based on a January 9, 2025 letter from the Police Service Commission.
The suspension, reportedly approved under Public Service Rules 100406, was made in accordance with the 2021 amendments. Furthermore, police authorities instructed the Assistant Inspector General of Police Budget and Payment to immediately suspend Lafia’s salary.
The directive, dated January 10, 2025, and referenced as AP:41804/FS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.IV/3, announced the suspension of AIG Abduyari Shuaya’u Lafia from duty, effective January 9, 2025, pending the determination of his case by the Force Disciplinary Committee.
Lafia, a prominent AIG, had assumed office as the AIG in charge of the Force Intelligence Bureau at the Force Headquarters in Abuja in February 2023.
