Felix Anyansi-Agwu, the first vice president of the Nigeria Football Federation, is undergoing treatment in Abuja after being attacked by armed robbers at his Gwarinpa Estate residence early on Wednesday, January 8, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
According to Ademola Olajire, Director of Communications for the NFF, thieves broke into Anyansi-Agwu’s home, stealing a vehicle, phones, cash, and other valuables worth millions of naira. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
NFF President Ibrahim Gusau visited the Anyansi-Agwu family on Wednesday morning to show support and pray for a speedy recovery.
NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi also expressed support for the embattled football administrator, saying:
“The NFF President has been to the house of Chief Anyansi-Agwu. I will also be going to his house shortly to empathise with him and his family. This is an unwholesome incident, and the Executive Committee, Management and Staff of NFF feel the stress of the Anyansi-Agwu family at this period.”
Anyansi-Agwu, a celebrated figure in Nigerian football and former chairman of Enyimba FC, has long been recognized for his contributions to the sport.
The news of the attack has sparked widespread condemnation from the football community and calls for improved security in residential areas.
According to further reports, the robbers invaded the home in the early hours of Wednesday, leaving a trail of destruction.
The community has expressed concerns about the growing insecurity in the area.
