The Nigerian Navy’s “Delta Sanity 1” operation reported significant success over the past year, with 215 suspects and 26 vessels arrested, and 468 illegal refinery sites deactivated in 2024, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
The Nigerian Navy (NN) announced the seizure of an estimated 6.5 million litres of stolen crude oil and 7 million litres of illegally refined Automated Gas Oil (AGO), which were handled accordingly.
This was disclosed during the launch of Operation Delta Sanity II, flagged off by Senator Hieneken Lokpobiri, Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and Oil, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
“Recall that Operation DELTA SANITY I was launched by the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla in January, 2024, as a major anti-crude oil theft operation with the deployment of personnel, patrol boats, helicopters and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
“Since then, the operation has been a huge success where the NN recorded a total of 215 suspects and 26 vessels arrested while 468 Illegal refinery sites were deactivated. Estimated quantity of 6.5million litres of stolen crude oil and 7million litres of illegally refined Automated Gas Oil (AGO) were seized and appropriately handled in 2024.”
