Deputy governor, others escape plane crash

Borno State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur, and over 100 passengers on a Max Air flight narrowly escaped disaster when the aircraft suffered an engine fire shortly after taking off from Maiduguri International Airport, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when the plane, bound for Abuja, experienced engine failure due to a bird strike about 10 minutes into the flight, prompting the pilot to make an emergency landing back at Maiduguri Airport.

After an emergency landing, many passengers were in a panic and chose to collect their luggage and go home rather than board another flight.

However, Max Air management quickly arranged for another aircraft to transport the remaining passengers, including the Deputy Governor, safely to Abuja.

The aircraft involved in the incident remains grounded at Maiduguri International Airport for repairs, while an investigation is underway.

The airport authorities have assured passengers of their commitment to safety and commended the crew for their professionalism in handling the situation.
