On Friday, a Qantas passenger jet taking off from Sydney, Australia, suffered engine failure, prompting an emergency landing after circling, as reported by Qantas on X, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
At the same time, a grass fire broke out near the runway, as stated by Sydney Airport. The connection between these events is unknown.
The fire has been controlled, but some flights may be delayed. Qantas has not revealed how many passengers were on the Boeing 737-800, headed to Brisbane, when the engine failed with a loud noise. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.
“We understand this would have been a distressing experience for customers, and we will be contacting all customers this afternoon to provide support,” stated Qantas Chief Pilot, Captain Richard Tobiano. “We will also be conducting an investigation into the cause of the engine issue.”
