Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, has called for increased awareness among public servants regarding the code of conduct, emphasizing the need for the Code of Conduct Bureau to educate rather than penalize.
He highlighted that many public servants are unaware of the asset declaration laws and urged the Bureau to proactively enlighten them to prevent unintentional violations.
The Minister clarified that the law does not prohibit public servants from owning businesses but from actively managing them.
He stressed the importance of integrity and adherence to the code of conduct, noting that his ministry shares a close relationship with the Code of Conduct Bureau in ensuring citizenship integrity.
The Minister also assured that his ministry is committed to improving compliance and will work to enhance the current standards.
The Acting Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Barr. Murtala Aliyu Kankia, commended the Minister for his contributions to the country and sought the ministry’s support in educating paramilitary agencies about asset declaration laws and securing the Bureau’s offices nationwide.
