The Osun state governor, Ademola Adeleke, Sunday, lamented the challenges faced by workers as occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy.
He promised that his government will do whatever is possible to mitigate the effect by providing necessary support within the limit of the law.
Adeleke who spoke at the grand finale of the 14th convocation of Osun State University (Uniosun), stated that he understands the challenges imposed by the removal of fuel subsidy and promised to assist workers.
He said: “We understand the challenges imposed by the removal of fuel subsidies, and I want to assure our staff that we are not oblivious to their struggles. We are doing everything within our power to mitigate the impact on your lives. We remain committed to ensure that you receive the support you all deserve within the limits of law,” Adeleke said.
The vice chancellor of the university, Professor Clement Adebooye, warned the graduands of the university to avoid attributing all problems of life to spirituality.
He stated that some problems of life require changes in character and attitude as well as ability to think and look at things in a positive way rather than categorising every challenge as spiritual problems.
Professor Adebooye advocated investment in quality education as solution to some societal, national and global challenges.
He said: “There are some challenges in life that may cause you trauma, depression and irreversible oxidative damage. But unfortunately, as you know, as Africans, we mistakenly categorise the challenges as spiritual problems.
“I can tell you for sure that all you need to overcome some of the challenges is a little change of your attitude, your character, the way you speak and sometimes the way you look and think. Not all life challenges require fasting and prayer or climbing of mountains,” Adebooye said.
