The Situation Room of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has erupted in celebration following reports that its governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo, had secured 56 percent of the votes in Saturday’s gubernatorial election.
Preliminary results indicate that Okpebholo is leading, while the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asue Ighodalo, trails behind with over 30 percent of the votes.
Amidst the excitement, a video of jubilant APC supporters has gone viral on social media, spreading quickly like wildfire in harmattan.
However, the APC has been cautious, refraining from releasing detailed figures for each local government.
Top officials of the APC, governors were reportedly present in the situation room during the celebration.
Despite the enthusiasm, it remains the responsibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to officially declare the results. The final announcement is expected to be made on Sunday morning in Benin, Edo State’s capital.
