Barely 24 hours after a school building collapsed in Plateau State, a section of a two-storey residential building in Abuja crumbled on Saturday morning, leaving several individuals trapped beneath the debris.
The building, previously a hotel named Al-Hilal and later converted into a hospital, had become a residential apartment after the hospital owners vacated the premises.
It is situated on Cupid Road (Sultan Dasuki Way) in Kubwa, adjacent to the well-known Cupid Hotel.
It was gathered that while emergency responders and security personnel quickly arrived at the scene, rescue operations were delayed due to the absence of cranes, which had not yet arrived by 8:45 am, nearly two hours after the collapse.
Despite the challenging circumstances, two people were transported to a nearby hospital, and a few others managed to escape unaided.
One of the survivors, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted that she heard cracking noises around 7 a.m. after she had stepped outside, prompting her to flee immediately.
