LG autonomy: Political activist, Olujimi Adekanle, hailed Supreme Court

The popular political activist, Olujimi Adekanle widely known as JAF has hailed the judgment of the Supreme Court delivered today in favour of Local government councils in Nigeria, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS 

Supreme Court ordered the Federal Government to henceforth pay Local Government Councils allocation directly to them.

Reacting to the judgment, Adekanle said what the apex court has done was to save the country from being balkanised by the State Governors.

Mr Adekanle rated the judgment as iconic judgment which clearly will restore grassroot democracy in Nigeria.

He also posited that the judgment would also restructured our local government system.

“The Supreme Court judgment is not just for any one; it is for the rule of law, our democracy and the entire people of Nigeria. This judgment will definitely restore grassroot democracy back to the country

“I call on all to monitor and ensure the prudent management of the 20.6% Federal Revenue Allocation to local government councils.

“I commend the judges for the well-thought-out and detailed judgment. They explained the reasons that led them to their conclusions. I specially thank the Supreme Court judges and, President Bola Tinubu for bringing up this particular issue as his perseverance for the autonomy of local government councils has paid off.”
