An Immigration Officer, Mr. Quadri Adeyinka, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for passport fraud following a conviction secured by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
A statement posted by ICPC on its X handle on Sunday, said Mr. Adeyinka, a staff of the Nigeria Immigration Service, was found guilty of gratification, conferment of corrupt advantage, and cheating, as outlined in the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, and the Penal Code Act.
During the trial before Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Apo, Abuja, the ICPC’s counsel, Dr. Osuobeni Ekoi Akponimisingha, presented evidence detailing how Mr. Adeyinka defrauded Mr. Ovie Justice Ojeffia under the guise of regularizing his international passport.
Having received a sum of N100,000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) from Mr. Ojeffia for the passport regularization, Mr. Adeyinka failed to fulfill his promise.
Subsequently, Mr. Ojeffia petitioned the ICPC, leading to an investigation and the subsequent arraignment of the convict.
In delivering the judgment, Justice Onwuegbuzie pronounced Mr. Adeyinka guilty on all four counts, sentencing him to seven years each for counts 1 and 2, five years for count 4, and two years for count 3.
